Week 12 - What's Next?

 Hello again,

I've learned a lot about myself these past few months, not only as a student, but as an individual and professional. I also need to give my Dad a call and let him know he was right all along about me. I am head strong ("hard headed" in his words), determined, and unyielding, and it shows in what influences my work.

I continue to make edits in my paper, timeline, and more research on how to execute my exhibition now that I know what the space will entail. Eventually I'll make my way to the gallery space and take photos so I can digitally render some examples and see what works best.

There are so many more things to get done but having a timeline and outline to work by has been extremely helpful. Also knowing that everyone else is at the same stage as myself has eased some of my anxieties of falling behind.

It's all going according to plan, even if it feels like chaos.

Keep going...

Another Update (Progress!)

I'm back, pushing through, and have completed my proposal, but it still needs revision.

I'm still chipping away at the entire project and brainstorming how to complete it. But, I will be taking advantage of the one-on-one meetings with Dr. Decker this upcoming Thursday to go over my ideas for the outcome of this thesis project!

I'm looking forward to completing this project and to seeing where it takes me!

Progress Update #3

 Hi everyone!

The concept of hosting a fashion show just popped in my brain after Dr. Decker mentioned space options at RIT. I love this concept, and I think it can make a space more interactive and fun, while also bringing community together. I know I would have to look into clothing sourcing, finding models, making posters, and more, but I think I would really enjoy the whole process! I definitely need to go over this idea more, but it's definitely a choice I can look at outside of an exhibit :)

Personal Expectations and Self Respect | Sophie Abatiell Tommola

 Happy Week 12 Muse-ers!

Things are definitely getting hectic with the end of the semester approaching, but we've all got this!

Before I get into my update, here are some Boba Joe pictures to help you de-stress.

Now that you all have gotten some Boba time, let's get into my update!

I have been very stressed with all of my deadlines as of late, so I haven't been the most happy/confident with the work I've submitted over the past few weeks. That's not to say that my work isn't good or that I'm not putting effort into it, but more so that I've been so overwhelmed with my personal life and my classes that I feel like I could be doing better work under less stressful conditions. It's very much me being too harsh on myself and setting my personal expectations sky high, even though I'm working myself to the bone.

This brings me to the exercise that we completed in class today about our core values. We were asked to take some time and write down 10 things that we consider to be our personal core values, and doing this helped me recognize that holding myself to the standard that I'm currently expecting is not conducive to my values. I value happiness, healthiness, and respect for yourself and others. Looking back at these three values, I realized that I haven't been prioritizing health and happiness; I've only been working, working, working. This is not respectful to me; this is not sustainable.

It is so hard to give yourself leeway when you're under a lot of pressure, but you also need to take care of yourself so that you don't run yourself into the ground. It can be difficult to respect yourself in the same way that you respect others, but it's helpful to take a step back sometimes to reflect on the standard you set for yourself and the standards you would set for someone else in your situation.

It's ok to take a break and prioritize your health and happiness! Taking care of yourself is integral to ensuring you can produce work that you are proud of and confident in. You should love and respect yourself as much as you love and respect your friends, because you have a whole community that loves and respects you, too.

I hope everyone has a smooth remainder of their semester and remembers to prioritize self-care.

End of Semester Update

As I am nearing the end of the semester, I only have on deadline left for research methods. I have completed the final proposal draft and will be editing that during the next couple of weeks, and submitting it before break! I am looking forward to finishing the proposal so I can start working on the bulk of my project for next semester. I am also looking forward to seeing the work of my fellow classmates!

Alice's Week 12 Update!

Hello all!

I cannot believe it is already Week 12. This semester has been a whirlwind of assignments and exams, making me really glad it is almost Thanksgiving Break!

Overall, I would say that in the last few weeks, I have become increasingly excited about my topic and its potential for execution. I have decided to shrink my scope to include only art museums and have chosen the Rochester Institute of Technology Public Art as my medium. I am excited to engage with professionals through interviews to gain their insight into how to create for children and read the new sources that I have about education through art.

With the final due date for our Thesis Proposal approaching, I am hoping to gain more peer review from people outside of our thesis class to gain the perspective of someone who is not in the museum's sphere. I think this will allow me to see what points of my paper are not technically explained well and make appropriate edits.

In the end, I am very excited to continue my research and start working on the project!

See you next time 👋...

Another Update- FH

While working on my Lit Review I realized I have heavily lacking content from the Cary Collection and was having difficulty contacting the collection as well. Due to these issues I have decided to pivot my thesis from focusing on the Cary Collection to focusing on how museums can use digitization to preserve and increase accessibility to medieval manuscripts, thus educating the public on medieval art. I have had to find alot of new resources, but a good amount of my previous ones work for this topic as well.
