The current topic that I am considering is, working with the Department of Photography at the George Eastman House, to itemize, catalog, and rehouse the Colorama collection. Colorama was an advertisement campaign used by Kodak from 1950-1990. Images were displayed in along Grand Central Station in New York City. Backlit, the images were transparent panoramas that were 18ft tall and 60ft wide. The images I will be working with are, much smaller, original prints. According to Ross Knapper, head archivist at GEH, there are approximately 500 left. I hope to complete the project to its full extent, however, 500 images would be an incredible feat.

The photos are great, and I think this would be a very interesting project, even if you can't complete it fully -- 500 is a lot.
ReplyDeleteHi Kenz,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have a very ambitious thesis project to itemize, catalog, and rehouse the entire collection. I am curious if you have given any thought to a particular "step" of the process to document in your paper, or will you work to highlight the overall procedures you will be fulfilling?
Kenzie,
Delete500 image prints to itemize, catalog and rehousing sounds awful a lot to do for a senior thesis. Anyone who could do this is you. Looking forward to see the outcomes of this project.
Hi Kenzie,
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a very interesting collection. As you get further into the project, you'll want to think about developing a research question that you can explore based on your work -- what can doing this project help you understand?
